• Card-Based Gameplay - The central mechanic involves the Deck of Fate; a modified playing card deck that determines outcomes instead of polyhedral dice. Additionally, it serves as an abstract resource clock, the longer players are adventuring away from safety the more likely they will succumb to exhaustion.

• Attributes and Saves - Inspired from Mark of the Odd games like Mausritter and Cairn, Deck of Fate uses STR, DEX, and WIL. Characters must draw under or equal to their attribute to achieve a success.

• Skill Based Character Progression -  Characters gain new skills as they level up in 9 specializations across the three character archetypes: Warriors, Magicians, and Shadows. Skills offer customization using a simple skill tree.

• Magic and Spellcasting -  Each magician specialization has its own rules for casting spells that is influenced by the fiction of the spell caster. Wizards are limited by hubris. Priests are limited by humility. Druids are limited by the elements themselves.
